Greetings,
I'm a new SC so while waiting for new clients to flock in, I usually look at the ads to the right of my screen and I know that clicking on any of it would mean I'm helping someone out. The difference between the ads on FanBox and Facebook is that here on FanBox, we are trained to click on an ad and we have full control of the appearance of the ads, whereas the ads on Facebook are a bit creepy in my opinion because Facebook tries hard to personalize your ads for you depending on the items you "liked" or "shared". What's even more alarming is that these "gathered data" are usually auctioned off to a 3rd party client for the sole purpose of online advertising. Last year alone, online advertising made billions of dollars in revenue.
With that said, I like the ad system here on FanBox because we are promoting integrity and interconnection as oppose to self-gain and avarice.
Seeing the ads to the right of my screen means that they have been approved by a SC. We have gone through the SC Exam, SC University and SC Training Packet and all three sources cover ad moderation.
Yet, why do I still see errors?
Let me point out the guidelines:
Ad Titles
Ad Texts
Now, let's go over some of the errors I've spotted:
- "Arlen's" should be "Arlene's" (Her name is mispelled).
- "If u..." should be "If you..." (Shortcuts are not allowed).
- "Arlene'" should be "Arlene's" (missing "s" to indicate possession).
- "Blog" should be "Blogs" to keep the title and text consistent.
- The ad text feels too wordy and I feel like there's a better way to reword it so it sounds more straightforward.
- "...how intelligent u r.." should be "...how intelligent you are..."
- The title is pretty much self-explanatory why it's not acceptable :/
- "One of you ask what i did with him my favorite activity is kissing him" should be "One of you ask what I did with him. My favorite activity is kissing him" (I is a proper noun and the ad text is a run-on sentence).
- The ad text implies that this was written by someone who isn't really proficient in English.
- "Death is nothing at all" should be "Death is Nothing at All".
- The tag for this ad states that it is a poetry therefore, the description should start off with something like "A poetry describing life and death..."
There were more errors but these were the examples I pulled out so you guys get the point.
I am not aiming to call out anyone for not properly moderating these ads; however, how are we suppose to promote quality if we, as SCs, can't even exemplify proper ad moderation? I am a firm advocator of quality and the only way to have a strong foundation here on FanBox is having strong SCs who understand simple grammatical rules should be esoteric knowledge. We are a growing website and we are aiming to restore the original intent of why the web was created: to be interconnected globally in a meaningful web of exploration and information. A great display of leadership will echo to all clients like a ripple in the ocean, expanding exponentially because each client will aim to mimic the same knowledge from their respective SCs.
I am still new here and still learning a lot. Please let me know if this topic was already covered.
